Hi! I’m a seasoned stylist with over 20 years of experience, and I want to let you in on a little secret:

I’m not a magician.

And neither is any other stylist.

That might sound funny coming from someone who transforms hair for a living—but hear me out. I totally understand why clients sometimes come in with big, bold dreams and Pinterest-perfect photos. I've been there too, back before I stepped behind the chair.

But the reality? Hair transformations aren’t always what they seem online—and there are real limits to what we can do in one session, with one budget, or on one particular head of hair.

So, let’s talk about what actually goes into achieving those dream looks—and how to set yourself up for a hair journey you’ll love (without the heartbreak).

🌟 Why Expectations Get Tricky

Here’s a common scenario:

A client walks in, nervous but hopeful, phone in hand.“I was thinking something like this...”

They show me a gorgeous photo—perfect lighting, Photoshopped shine, custom extensions, and probably hours (or days!) of work behind it.

I get it. It looks amazing! But most of the time, those images are super styled, filtered, and edited—and don’t show the behind-the-scenes work, cost, or maintenance involved.

The truth? Hair is an art, not a paint-by-numbers project.

Your hair is unique, and so is the journey to your dream look.

🧠 What Really Affects the Outcome

1. 🕵️‍♀️ Your Hair Has a History

Think of your hair like a diary—it tells your story. If it’s been through bleach, box dye, or even drugstore shampoo, that matters a lot. These past choices affect how your hair reacts to color, processing, and treatments.

Want to go from jet black to icy blonde? That’s not a one-step deal. It may take multiple sessions, tons of TLC, and a lot of patience to keep your hair healthy along the way.

2. 🔬 Hair Texture, Porosity, & Density Matter

Different hair = different game plan. Here's a quick cheat sheet:

Fine Hair

  • Absorbs color fast (sometimes too fast).

  • Prone to damage.

  • Needs gentle formulas and volume-boosting care.

Curly Hair

  • Naturally dry, so lightening needs extra caution.

  • Craves moisture, moisture, moisture.

  • Loves sulfate-free shampoos and deep conditioners.

Porous or Damaged Hair

  • Soaks up color quickly but fades fast.

  • Struggles to hold moisture.

  • Needs color-safe products and extra nourishment.

3. 📸 Filtered Photos Aren’t Real Life

Those inspo pics? They’re often highly edited.

Even with the exact same formula and technique, the end result on your hair may look different due to lighting, hair type, and more.

That doesn’t mean we can’t get you something amazing.

It just means we’re creating a look that works for you, not trying to copy-paste from Instagram.

4. 💰 Great Hair Takes Time & Investment

Those dreamy, dimensional blondes and rich fashion colors don’t come cheap—or quick. Often, the transformation takes multiple appointments spaced weeks apart.

And once you’ve got that look?

You'll need regular maintenance: toners, trims, and at-home care (like color-safe products) to keep it fresh.

✅ How to Set Yourself Up for Success

Now that we’ve covered the real talk, here’s how to make the most of your salon experience:

✂️ Bring Inspiration, Not Expectations

That Pinterest pic? Love it. Let’s use it as a starting point, not the finish line. I’ll help adapt the idea to work with your hair and lifestyle.

⏳ Trust the Process

Big transformations take time! Some of the best results happen in stages, with a custom plan to get there safely and beautifully.

🙋‍♀️ Be Honest About Your Hair History

No shame in the midnight box dye or DIY bleach—just tell me everything. The more I know, the better I can protect your hair and plan accordingly.

💬 Ask Questions, Stay Curious

I’m not just here to do your hair—I’m here to educate and guide you. If you’re unsure about something, just ask! I’ll explain what’s realistic, what’s risky, and what’s fabulous and doable.

❤️ TLDR: Realistic = Beautiful

You don’t need filters or fantasy hair to look incredible.

With honest conversations, trust, and a bit of patience, we can create a look that flatters you, fits your lifestyle, and makes you feel amazing every single day.
