The Pillowcase Trick: The Easiest Upgrade You’ll Ever Make for Your Hair

Hey there! If you’ve sat in my chair, you know I’m all about keeping things low-fuss and low-stress. I believe great hair shouldn’t require an engineering degree or a 45-minute morning routine. So today, let me share one of my sneakiest low-maintenance hair tips—and it starts where you sleep.

Swap Your Pillowcase, Save Your Hair

I tell all my clients: if you’re still sleeping on a cotton pillowcase, we need to talk. Swapping it out for a silk or satin pillowcase is one of the easiest, most low-effort ways to keep your hair looking better, longer—especially if you’re trying to stretch time between washes or styles.

Why it works:

  • Less Friction = less frizz, breakage, and tangles

  • Styles last longer (especially blowouts, waves, or curls)

  • Less bedhead = fewer rushed morning ponytails

  • It even helps your skin, but that’s a whole other post...

Seriously—this one change can make a big difference, especially for my fine-haired friends or those with curls or waves. I’ve had clients come back and say their hair actually feels smoother in the morning. And all they did was swap out a pillowcase. No products, no heat, no late-night hair tutorials.

Bonus Tip:

If you're really feeling it, wrap your hair in a silk scarf before bed. It feels a little bougie in the best way—like you’re channeling Old Hollywood glam while still being in your sweatpants.

So if you want to start caring for your hair without doing much of anything, this is your sign to make the switch. You’ll thank me in the morning!

Let me know if you try it—and if you ever want help picking the right pillowcase or need more lazy-but-lovely tips, come see me in the salon. (I’ll be the one in fluffy slippers with a comb in one hand and coffee in the other.)

Stay smooth.
